The Dawn of Day
for mixed chorus (SATB) and piano (optional) by Wally Kleucker

This piece was written in 2008 in protest of the abdication and suspension of liberties in recent years which have been part of our society since the Magnum Carta of 1297 and guaranteed by the United States Constitution and numerous other resolutions including the United Nations Charter and the Geneva Conventions.

The text is based on writings of Thomas Jefferson.

His words seem as contemporary today as they were when he wrote them:

"An elective despotism was not the government we fought for.
The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.
Enlighten the people and tyrrany of mind and body will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day."

The piece is approximately two minutes in duration.
